Fresher Friday #6- Finding a Hobby

Firstly appologies for not posting a Fresher Friday post last week, I sadly woke up Thursday morning to find my beloved hamster maddie had died! So that kind of threw me off track a bit!
I've now adopted a new hamster from the adoption section of pets at home called Jess (from New Girl) and she is incredibly timid and shy so I think it may be a while before I have any cute pictures to show you as she runs and hides whenever I open her cage at present! I'm hoping that with a lot of patience (and some good old fashioned bribery) I can gradually win her trust!

The past week I have been getting rather stressed and overwhelmed by University! It appears second year is a LOT harder than first year which was something that I wasn't really prepared for! I got to the point of crying at 1am (yes I was that girl) and contemplating dropping out (not that I really had a better alternative) but after a visit from my lovely boyfriend and consequently coming home for a long weekend (don't worry I have no lectures) I am starting to feel a lot better about the situation but I have come to the conclusion that I need to find a new hobby (especially now bake off has finished!) as I found that I was spending most of my time either in lectures or sat at my desk working (or procrastinating from doing that work) which frankly is not very helpful!

So over the next few weeks I am going to attempt some new hobbies because I don't really think that I can class Candy Crush as a hobby! and I shall aim to share my progress with you on how I am getting on. I have an exam on Monday so it may have to wait until after then but in the meantime I am going to try and draw up a list of some things I would like to try and so dear reader, if you have any suggestions as to what I should do, please comment down below or send me an email at theuniversityffproject @ gmail.com (without the spaces!)

  1. As a college student myself, I totally relate to your post!
It's so easy to get overwhelmed with all the lectures, assignments, readings, projects,... It's ok to have moments of doubts and to burst into tears.

Having a hobby is a good thing to keep you away from burnout.
Why don't you go back to the hobbies you had last year or in high school? Or try something completely new?
Sport is also a good option. There must be a lot to choose from on the campus, especially for students on a budget! Enroll your friends, you can keep each other motivated to go to classes, even on cold winter evenings! Arrange your studying schedule so you keep an evening off for your hobby or just for yourself.
I do yoga and meditation to keep my sanity; it works pretty well for me (I need to get time and space for myself, and yoga + meditation are great for that). There are free online yoga classes too, when you can't/don't want to go to the gym/yoga studio.

Hope my comment helped a bit...

    Good luck for your exams!

    1. Hi!
Thank you for your response, it definitely helps knowing that I am not the only one who is going through something like that!
My main hobby in high school was horse riding which is too expensive for my student budget to maintain! My mum has taught me the basics of crochet and so far I have been really enjoying that! During my gap year I took up running as a hobby and I have been considering getting back into that but the constant rainy welsh weather makes that thought a bit less appealing!
I've always been intrigued by yoga so I may well look and see if my university has anything to offer in that respects :)
Thanks! Good luck with your studies too!
